Thoughts on software and life.

panacea

This thread on socialism has reminded me of one of the biggest flaws of human nature. Most people want to believe that there is some benevolent force in the universe that is looking out for their best interests. This force goes by different names in different cultures, but in the US the two big ones are "God" and "Uncle Sam".

Well, I can't tell you if there is a God or not, but I can tell you this: it's a cold, cruel world out there, and there is nobody on earth that can take care of you better than yourself.

When you trust the government to run your life, you're saying you prefer to have absolutely no say on how 50% of your income is spent, except for once a year on Election Day. You're saying you're happy to work half of the year just to create a massive stack of cash that is up for grabs for those who can send a lobbyist down to Washington.

Quite simply, people seem to be afraid to have complete control of their own lives. That's a shame, because it's not difficult to see that those who take the time to make informed decisions about their lives will be better off than those who leave it to somebody else.
